Looking for an upbeat finish to a disappointing season, the Bend Elks on Sunday night posted their third straight victory.
Bend’s 11-6 nonleague win over the Gresham GreyWolves wrapped up a three-game series sweep at Vince Genna Stadium, where the Elks close out the 2018 season Tuesday night with a nonleague game against the Salem-based Hayesville Hammers.
A five-run first inning that featured a two-run single by Ty Holmstrom gave Bend a lead it would not surrender. The Elks survived seven defensive errors to secure just their second three-game winning streak of the season, matching a West Coast League sweep of the Walla Walla Sweets in early July.
Ian Nowak homered for the second consecutive night for the Elks, a three-run shot that put the home team ahead 11-2 in the sixth inning.
