A brush and grass fire 10 miles north of Prineville had been circled with fire lines and was 40 percent contained by Monday afternoon, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.
The fire was reported just before noon Sunday near Allen Creek Road. An aggressive initial attack kept the fire at about 27 acres. Resources deployed on the fire included four Oregon Department of Forestry fire engines, two U.S. Forest Service engines, four hand crews, four dozers, three water tenders, two single-engine air tankers, three heavy air tankers and four helicopters. Crook County Fire and Rescue and the land owner also contributed firefighting resources. Crews began mop-up operations by 7 p.m. Sunday.
About a half dozen homes in the Lofton Creek area were given precautionary Level 1 (get set) evacuation notices, but that warning was lifted by 6 p.m. Sunday.
