Barb Campbell, elected to the Bend City Council in 2014, announced Thursday she will seek re-election to the council.

In her announcement, Campbell said, she wants to continue working on issues facing the city such as creating more affordable housing and transportation options and mitigating the negative effects of tourism.

Campbell points to accomplishments she’s been a part of on the city council over the past four years. Specifically, expanding the city’s urban growth boundary, making code and zoning changes to create complete neighborhoods and working with the Bend Park and Recreation District and the Oregon Department of Transportation to create a network of safe paths and sidewalks in the city.

Campbell serves on citizen committees and meets with technical advisors to research transportation options. She also served on the septic and sewer advisory committee.

In addition, Campbell has worked to start the Ride Downtowner shuttle with a route specifically designed to keep tourist traffic down, she said in her announcement.

Campbell will be challenged on the Nov. 6 general election ballot by Bend resident and regular city council candidate Ron Boozell, according to the City of Bend website. She is running for Position No. 6 on the city council, although she was elected to Position No. 7. Earlier this year, Bend residents voted to convert Position No. 7 to an elected mayor position.

Campbell joins a slew of candidates running for council positions and for Bend’s first elected mayor position.
