A charging battery pack is believed to have caused a fire that significantly damaged a home this weekend in Northeast Bend.
At about 5 p.m. Sunday, Bend Fire Department responded to a home on fire on Northeast Brightwater Drive. Firefighters gained control of the fire within 24 minutes of arriving, according to a Bend Fire release.
An investigation determined the fire started when a charging lithium ion battery pack overheated in a child’s bedroom.
The building, valued around $450,000, received about $150,000 in damage, and $60,000 in contents was lost.
The tenants were not home at the time of the fire. Bend Fire reported the tenants had renter’s insurance.
An adjacent home received minor damage from radiant heat.
No injuries were reported fighting the fire.
