Military notes

• U.S. Air Force Airman National Guard 1st Class Taylor M. Hanson has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, in San Antonio. She is the daughter of Donald and Michelle Hansen of Redmond.

College notes

• Matthew Robert Carpenter, of Redmond, received a Master of Science degree from South Dakota State University following the spring 2018 semester.

• John David Green, of Sisters, received a Master of Science degree from South Dakota State University following the spring 2018 semester.

High school notes

• Ayden Satterlee, of Redmond, participated in a academic and career-oriented development experience hosted by Envision and George Mason University. Representing Ridgeview High School, he was selected to attend this invitation-only event and was joined by high school students from across the nation to participate in the engineering program of the National Youth Leadership Forum.

Youth notes

• Riley Latta, a sixth-grade student at Redmond Proficiency Academy, won first place in Oregon’s “If I Were Mayor” contest sponsored by the Oregon Mayor’s Association. Riley described characteristics that a mayor should have, then gave examples of how these might apply to city issues. After winning the local competition in May, his essay was forwarded to the state level to compete for the grand prize. With his family in attendance, an Apple iPad Air2 was presented to him at the association’s summer conference luncheon in July in Florence. He is the son of Sarah and Brett Latta of Redmond.
