A California-based high-tech company plans to move its Bend office into a bigger building to expand operations and add workers, the company announced.

Nanometrics, which makes process-control systems and measurement tools used by semiconductor, high-brightness LED and other high-tech manufacturers, will be moving from its location on SE Armour Road to a 12,000-square-foot office on NE High Desert Lane.

The new location will accommodate about 50 employees, which would more than double Nanometrics’ Bend workforce, according to a news release. Renovations at the new building will give the office 4,000 square feet of lab space, which will include a 1,700-square-foot clean room for research and development. The company expects the work to be finished by the end of this year.

Nanometrics plans to hire electrical, mechanical, systems and software engineers and others, according to the release, and expects to fill the building with new hires in the next two years.

The company has been operating in Bend since 2006 when it acquired Accent Optical Technologies. Headquartered in Milpitas, at the south end of San Francisco Bay, Nanometrics employs more than 600 worldwide. It also has an office in Hillsboro. Some of its largest customers include Intel Corp., Samsung Electronics Co., Micron Technology and Toshiba Corp., according to its 2017 annual report.

The company reported net revenues of $88.6 million in the second quarter, which was a 37 percent increase over the second quarter 2017, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Net income in the second quarter was $17.68 million, up from $8.29 million in the same quarter last year.
