A Bend man is in custody after allegedly threatening a road construction crew and breaking into, and out of, a laundromat.
Brian Carl Kennedy, 33, was arrested by Bend Police Department officers at around 3 a.m. outside Cathy’s Express Eco Laundromat at 407 SE Third St. Police were called after Kennedy allegedly screamed at city of Bend road crew members that he had a gun and slapped his waistband. Two crew members gave officers a description of Kennedy and the direction he was heading.
As police searched for him, a person calling from Cathy’s laundromat reported a man had stolen items and had shattered a glass door to escape, according to Bend Police.
Officers discovered a man matching the description near the laundromat and arrested him.
Police say Kennedy had broken into the laundromat off-hours and confronted a cleaning crew, who told him to leave.
“Kennedy then stole items from Cathy’s Cleaners and threw rocks to effect his escape,” according to a news release.
Kennedy is being held at Deschutes County jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary, third-degree robbery, attempted fourth-degree assault, menacing, second-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and third-degree theft.
