Gov. Kate Brown will visit Oregon State University-Cascades on Wednesday to sign a bill authorizing $39 million for a new academic building at the campus.
Brown, OSU-Cascades Vice President Becky Johnson and several students are expected to speak during the signing at 1:45 p.m. in the university’s Bruckner Courtyard, immediately west of Tykeson Hall.
The Oregon Legislature passed a bill last session giving OSU-Cascades $39 million for its second academic building, after approving just $9.5 million of the $69.5 million university leaders requested in 2017. State funding, plus a $10 million match from private donors, will pay for a new building devoted to science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
Last week, Bend’s planning commission endorsedOSU-Cascades’ master plan for its future as a 5,000-student campus. The plan still requires approval from the Bend City Council, and it will be years before the university fully implements it.
