Oregon-Georgia set for 2022 — Oregon and Georgia will face off for only the second time when the Ducks and Bulldogs play in the 2022 season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The teams were announced on Tuesday to play in the annual Chick-fil-A Kickoff game on Sept. 3, 2022. Oregon will become the second Pac-12 team to play in the game. Washington will play Auburn on Sept. 1 in this year’s opener. Georgia beat Oregon 27-16 in Athens, Georgia, in 1977, the only previous meeting between the teams.

Ex-NFLer charged in bizarre case — Former NFL offensive lineman Richie Incognito bonded out of an Arizona jail Tuesday after being arrested on charges he threatened to shoot employees of a funeral home a day earlier, authorities said. Police in Scottsdale said Incognito had been booked on suspicion of misdemeanor charges of threats and disorderly conduct. Incognito, 35, posted a $20,000 bond. Police said Incognito was at the Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary on Monday to make arrangements for his father, who died last weekend. “Incognito reportedly was upset with staff and began to damage property inside the business and shout at employees,” a police spokesman said. “At several points during his contact with staff, Incognito threatened to retrieve guns from his vehicle and return to shoot the employees.” A police report showed officers later executed a search warrant on Incognito’s pickup truck and seized two Glock pistols, three rifles and a silencer for a handgun. The report also said Incognito’s family had told him he was not going to be allowed to attend his father’s funeral and he had been acting erratically. Witnesses at the funeral home told police that Incognito wanted them to cut his dead dad’s head off for research purposes and Incognito punched caskets, threw pamphlets around and took an urn from a shelf and slammed it down on top of a casket. Two mortuary employees took cover in a room downstairs before police arrived and arrested Incognito.

Giants’ Posey could be out for year — San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey might need hip surgery that would end his season. Giants general manager Bobby Evans said Tuesday that “we have discussed the possibility.” The San Francisco Chronicle first reported on Posey’s situation. Posey has been dealing with hip trouble this season. A six-time All-Star, he received a cortisone injection and missed last month’s game. Posey, 31, did not play Tuesday night against the New York Mets after catching all 13 innings in a win Monday. Posey is hitting .286 with five homers and 40 RBIs. Since the All-Star break, he is hitting .283 with no homers and nine RBIs.

Cubs acquire 2B Murphy in trade with Nationals — The Chicago Cubs have bolstered their struggling lineup by acquiring second baseman Daniel Murphy in a trade with the Washington Nationals. The Cubs also announced Tuesday that right-hander Yu Darvish will miss the rest of the season after pitching just one inning in a rehab start for Class A South Bend on Sunday. The deal for Murphy comes at an opportune time for NL Central-leading Chicago, which scored just one run in each of its previous four games. Third baseman Kris Bryant is on the disabled list with an inflamed left shoulder, and shortstop Addison Russell was scratched from their series opener at Detroit due to right shoulder inflammation. The Cubs brought in Murphy for Class A infielder Andruw Monasterio and a player to be named or cash. The 33-year-old Murphy is batting .340 (35 for 103) since the All-Star break. He has a .413 career batting average at Wrigley Field, according to STATS.

Kobe won’t play in BIG3 — Kobe Bryant will not be coming out of retirement to play in the BIG3 next year. A spokesperson for the longtime Los Angeles Lakers star said Tuesday that Bryant is not playing next season in the 3-on-3 league of former NBA players. BIG3 co-founder and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz said during the league’s weekly conference call that he “did hear from a credible source yesterday that Kobe says he’s playing next year.” But Molly Carter, chief marketing officer of Kobe Inc., says the NBA’s No. 3 career scorer has no plans to do so. The BIG3 wraps up its second season with the championship game Friday in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
