Bend will have three-way races for two open City Council seats and a six-way race for mayor.
By 5 p.m. Tuesday, the deadline to file for office, most City Council hopefuls had collected the 150 signatures they needed to qualify for the November ballot.
Mayoral candidates are security guard Charles Webster Baer, disability rights advocate Brian Douglass, attorney Michael R. Hughes, photographer Joshua Langlais, current City Councilor and software company owner Bill Moseley and current City Councilor Sally Russell, who has worked in marketing and for nonprofits and has served as Bend’s mayor pro tem since 2017.
Candidates for position 5, now held by Councilor Nathan Boddie, are Andrew Davis, director of student life at Central Oregon Community College; Gena Goodman-Campbell, public lands coordinator for the Oregon Natural Desert Association; and Victor Johnson, a musician and preschool music teacher.
Current City Councilor and Wabi Sabi owner Barb Campbell, Navy veteran and frequent candidate Ron “Rondo” Boozell and stay-at-home mother Sarah McCormick are running for position 6, now held by Mayor Casey Roats. Boozell was arrested last week for failing to pay child support and is expected to remain in jail through the election, which will be held on Nov. 6.
While the positions are nonpartisan, the Deschutes County Democratic Party already has endorsed Russell, Goodman-Campbell and Campbell, and the Central Oregon Federated Republican Women have claimed Moseley, Davis and McCormick as their candidates.
