The Bend woman accused of killing her disabled son before attempting suicide made her first court appearance Wednesday.

Tashina Aleine Jordan, 28, was arraigned on one count of aggravated murder in Deschutes County Circuit Court. She appeared in the courtroom of Judge Walter Miller by video link from the Deschutes County jail, where she’s been held since Tuesday, when she was transferred from the care of St. Charles Bend.

On the evening of Aug. 20, a relative found Jordan unconscious in her home on Mount Hope Drive, along with her son, who had been killed by a single gunshot, police say.

Mason Jordan, 7, was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother was taken to the hospital with an overdose. At first, authorities didn’t expect Tashina Jordan to survive, but her condition improved.

Over two days last week, a grand jury heard testimony from witnesses in the case, including Tashina Jordan’s mother, Bend Police officers, hospital personnel and a mental health practitioner.

District Attorney John Hummel has not said whether he will pursue the death penalty, which is an option because Jordan has been charged with aggravated murder.

Jordan’s next court date is a case status check scheduled for Sept. 24.
