• United Way of Deschutes County has awarded $309,000 to nonprofits as part of the organization’s annual grantmaking process. The 2018 recipients are: Central Oregon 2-1-1, Council on Aging of Central Oregon’s Meals on Wheels, Back Door Café, Bethlehem Inn, Boys and Girls Clubs of Bend, Camp Fire, CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of Central Oregon, Tax-Aide, Friends of the Children, Healthy Beginnings, Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center, Heart of Oregon Corps, Big Brothers Big Sisters, J Bar J Runaway and Homeless Youth Programs, KIDS Center, Latino Community Association, Mosaic Medical, Mountain Star Relief Nursery, NeighborImpact and Saving Grace. Each nonprofit received no less than $5,000 and no more than $30,000.
• The Environmental Center is seeking applications for the 2018 Sustainability Awards, which celebrate and honor local businesses, organizations and individuals who are leading the way to a more sustainable future. Awards are for four categories: small business, large business, government and nonprofits organization and individual, Applications are due by Sept. 14. and are available at www.envirocenter.org/sustainabilityawards.
• Humane Society of Central Oregon has been awarded an $8,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to replace necessary medical clinic lighting. The veterinary clinic performs surgeries four days a week spaying and neutering all dogs, cats and rabbits prior to adoption.
• Visions, 421 SW Sixth St., Redmond, filed an application Aug. 20 with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission as a new outlet for an off-premises sales license, which allows the sale of malt beverages, wine and cider in factory-sealed containers for consumption off the licensed premises.
• Fearless Baking Bakery & Cafe, 1900 Division St., Suite 102, Bend, filed an application Aug. 20 with the OLCC for an additional privilege, an off-premises sales license, which allows the sale of malt beverages, wine and cider in factory sealed containers for consumption off the licensed premises. It also applied for a change of ownership and a limited on-premises sales license, which allows the sale of malt beverages, wine and cider for consumption on the licensed premises and the sale of kegs of malt beverages for off-premises consumption.
• Plantd Cafe & Marketplace, 1900 Division St., Suite 102, Bend, filed an application Aug. 20 with the OLCC for a change of trade name and a limited on-premises sales license, which allows the sale of malt beverages, wine and cider for consumption on the licensed premises and the sale of kegs of malt beverages for off-premises consumption.
• Bend Spirits, 19330 Pinehurst Road, Bend, filed an application Aug. 22 with the OLCC as a new outlet for a distillery license, which allows the holder to manufacture, import into and export distilled spirits out of Oregon, sell them to the OLCC for resale or sell them in bulk to another Oregon distillery licensee.
