- Oregon tight end Cam McCormick, of Bend, is still not cleared to play yet this season.
EUGENE — Cam McCormick’s season was a short one.
Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said Monday that the redshirt sophomore tight end from Bend broke a bone in his left leg in Saturday’s season-opening win over Bowling Green and will miss the rest of the 2018 season.
McCormick, a 6-foot-5, 253-pound redshirt sophomore who graduated from Summit High School, played long enough to make one catch in the first quarter of Oregon’s 58-24 victory at Autzen Stadium. But he spent most of the game on the sidelines after the injury.
“He will be sorely missed not only as a player, but as a teammate,” Cristobal said during his weekly Monday press conference. “These guys certainly love him. The hospital was a packed place for him, in support of him, by his teammates and coaches.”
McCormick missed nearly his entire senior season at Summit in 2015 after tearing the ACL in his left knee. He was a redshirt at Oregon in 2016, then last season he played in all 13 games, making two starts and six receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown.
