Prineville man dies in motorcycle crash
A 47-year-old Prineville man died after he crashed his motorcycle on state Highway 126 just west of Prineville.
John Whitehurst was traveling westbound at about 10:41 a.m. Thursday on his 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he left the roadway, traveled on the loose gravel on the shoulder and struck boulders on the side of the highway, according to Prineville Police.
Police said no other vehicles were involved and speeding and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Whitehurst, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several citizens were on the scene attempting to help Whitehurst as emergency personnel were responding.
Prineville Police were assisted by Oregon State Police, Crook County Fire and Rescue, the Oregon Department of Transportation and Prineville Public Works.
