Bend’s Empire Avenue closing until December

Empire Avenue between the 18th Street roundabout and Purcell Boulevard will close Tuesday to all cars, bicycles and pedestrians.
The road is expected to remain closed until December as part of $4.5 million project to rebuild the existing road and add a new roundabout at the intersection of Empire Avenue and Purcell Boulevard.
Purcell Boulevard will remain open, but the Pilot Butte Canal trail will be closed at Empire Avenue during construction. The city of Bend will install detour signs, and people visiting Ponderosa Elementary School and Pine Nursery Park should take alternate routes.
