Bend’s Maton no longer with Ducks

Matthew Maton, a former national prep star from Bend whose All-American career at the University of Oregon was recently slowed by a string of injuries, is no longer on the Ducks’ cross-country or track and field rosters.
Maton has not raced in an Oregon uniform since the 2017 indoor season when he competed in both the mile and the 3,000 meters at the NCAA indoor track championships. He missed the 2017 outdoor season and never ran for the Ducks again.
Oregon coach Robert Johnson was in Sunriver with the men’s and women’s cross-country teams for their annual training camp and was unavailable for comment Saturday. New men’s cross-country and distance coach Ben Thomas did say two weeks ago that Maton would not be competing in what would have been his redshirt junior cross-country season this fall.
