A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports (all times Pacific):

Monday

Pro football, New York Jets at Detroit, 4:10 p.m. (ESPN); Los Angeles Rams at Oakland, 7:20 p.m. (ESPN): A double dip of action kicks off the regular season’s first Monday night slate. Sam Darnold’s debut as Jets QB highlights the opener in Detroit, where Matt Patricia is the Lions’ new head coach. The second game features the return to the sideline of Jon Gruden, who is back in charge in Oakland.

Tuesday

Prep boys soccer, Madras at Summit, 4 p.m.: The Class 4A White Buffaloes travel to Bend to face a 6A opponent in the Storm. Both teams are undefeated through three nonleague games. Madras, a 4A state quarterfinalist last season, is coming off a 4-3 victory over Mountain View and has outscored its opponents 19-4 so far this season. Summit has posted two shutouts and boasts a 7-1 scoring margin.

Wednesday

Major League Baseball, Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs, 5 p.m. (ESPN): All three National League division races are too close to call going into the homestretch, including the NL Central, in which the Cubs’ lead over the Brewers has been trimmed to just two games entering the week. Wednesday’s game concludes a potentially pivotal three-game series between the I-94 rivals.

Saturday

College football, San Jose State at Oregon, 2 p.m. (Pac-12 Network); Oregon State at Nevada, 4 p.m. (ESPN3 online streaming): The Ducks and the Beavers conclude the nonconference portion of their schedules. Oregon plays its third straight home game and looks to stay undefeated going into Pac-12 play. OSU routed Southern Utah to improve to 1-1 but doesn’t figure to have it so easy in Reno.

Saturday

Running, Under Armour Mountain Running Series at Mount Bachelor: After stops at Copper Mountain, Colorado, in July and Killington, Vermont, in August, the second year of this series concludes in Central Oregon. Races start with a 50K at 7 a.m., followed by an 18K at 7:30, a 10K at 8 a.m. and a 5K at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to register, visit www.uamountainrunning.com.
