Bend’s first creative laureate is Jason Graham, aka MOsley WOtta, a longtime Bend poet, visual artist and rapper. Graham’s appointment to the post, created by the city of Bend, Arts and Culture Alliance of Central Oregon and ScaleHouse, was announced at Wednesday’s Bend City Council Meeting.

According to the announcement, Bend is the second city in the U.S. to have a creative laureate, after Portland, where artist Julie Keefe was appointed in 2012. As creative laureate, Graham will participate in community education, advocacy, workshops and public events including speaking engagements.

The Arts and Culture Alliance administers the creative laureate, which is selected by a committee representing the arts and creative community. The term is two years and comes with a $5,000 stipend.
