The team behind Sisters Country Horizons development initiative will hold a summit in October where visitors can learn more about the proposal and the people spearheading it.

The people developing the initiative, which is designed to help guide development in Sisters and the surrounding area, will hold a vision summit from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the FivePine Lodge & Conference Center in Sisters. During the free event, there will be refreshments, stories about life in Sisters Country and a presentation of the emerging Sisters Country vision. Visitors will be able to meet the new 24-person vision action team, and provide feedback on the evolving plan, according to a news release from the initiative.

Sisters Country is an approximately 8-square-mile section of Deschutes County that roughly spans the Sisters School District boundaries. Sisters Country is that part of Deschutes County served by the school district, including the city of Sisters and smaller unincorporated communities and residential areas, ranches and farms.

The Sisters Country Horizons team has already held several rounds of outreach on the plan, developing 54 draft strategies based on community interviews, meetings, forums and surveys of residents and visitors. In July and August, Sisters Country Horizons conducted a second survey, asking people to choose which of the strategies they thought were most important. A total of 565 people completed the recent survey, and the survey results will be revealed at the summit, according to the release.
