January 22, 1944–September 3, 2018

The family of Sonnie Lila Grossman-Cook mourn her passing. A rare, selfless person, her care and concern for the happiness and well-being of others will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Sonnie was born January 22, 1944 to Meyer and Marie (Schroeder) Diamond in Los Angeles, California.

She is survived by her son, Brian Grossman; grandchildren, Zacary and Mollie Grossman; husband, Wayne Cook; sister, Roz Potter; and brother, Edward Diamond.

Sonnie was a licensed real estate broker for 40 years, who established her business, Sonnie Grossman and Associates, in Bend in 1985.

She was active with local hiking groups for many years and loved to travel and explore central and eastern Oregon and many foreign countries. She was also a spiritual explorer and sought connection to a spiritual existence. Like her name, Sonnie had a vivacious personality and enjoyed hosting many dinner parties with Wayne at their beautiful home. She was also an excellent cook and baker and many enjoyed the fruits of her kitchen labors.

Her kind temperament hid a remarkable strength, tenacity and fighting spirit when faced with adversity. These qualities came to the forefront when she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2011. She sought treatment and relief from this dreaded disease, fighting with everything she had, and amazed everyone, including her medical care team, with her ability to endure.

Sonnie passed away peacefully at Oregon Health Science University in Portland on September 3, 2018. Contact Wayne at (541) 815-1420 for memorial service information.
