Deaths of note from around the world:

Beat Richner, 71: A Swiss pediatrician who opened a network of children’s hospitals in Cambodia at a time when quality health care was all but nonexistent in that country. Died Sept. 9 in Zurich.

C. Payne Lucas, 85: A founder and longtime president of Africare, a relief organization that has constructed roads and wells, established schools and literacy program, and improved health care in some of the neediest countries in the world, died Sept. 15 of advanced dementia in Silver Spring, Maryland.
