Voter turnout low with 5 days to go

With five days until Tuesday’s primary election, 17.99 percent of ballots had been returned in Deschutes County as of Thursday afternoon, according to the Deschutes County Clerk’s Office.

In Jefferson County, 18.58 percent of ballots had been returned. In Crook County, the figure was 21 percent.

Statewide, 14.6 percent of ballots had been returned, the Oregon Secretary of State’s website reported Thursday.

Voters have until 8 p.m. Tuesday to return their ballots — it’s too late to mail them.
