Don’t believe Kavanaugh
Don’t be lulled by the Kavanaugh thing as just “boys will be boys.” That is not the real issue.
The real issue is that if it happened, as it apparently did, he has lied about it. That is the real issue.
When this came out, if he had manned up and told the public, “Yes, I did it — I’m terribly ashamed of what I did and wish I could change it” and apologized to Dr. Ford, he would have helped her heal, and we would not be having the public discussion we are having now.
Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s veracity was already in doubt; now it seems there can be no doubt whatsoever. It seems apparent Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is telling the truth, and the GOP’s “pledge to uncover the truth” is just another falsehood. Otherwise the GOP would welcome a thorough investigation and not be rushing to confirm this man to a coveted lifetime position of unquestionable power — an act, in my opinion, that may be the last stumbling block before some sort of autocratic governorship takes over this country.

Bill Moseley for mayor
By electing the most qualified candidate to be Bend’s new mayor, we will define the economic and communal future of our city.
Candidate Bill Moseley has the experience to make sensible decisions for the well being of all Bend residents.
Bill has the maturity today to meet the needs of his business’ clients, employees and suppliers in a complex, technical marketplace. This leadership quality will be applied as he leads Bend into its next phase.
Bill has the passion and commitment to hold a vision for the Bend of the future. It is a vision that applies limited resources — tax revenues — to fund the core requirements of a city serving its residents. That means streets that are in good repair, cleared in the winter and connected efficiently to facilitate the movement of people and goods. That also means money for security, first responders and proper maintenance of water and sewer systems.
Bill has a contemporary, realistic and practical mindset to lead Bend forward. Simply put, he is able to direct city staff and personnel, with buy-in from the City Council, to efficiently apply tax dollars and human resources to satisfy the needs of all citizens, not the “wants” of well meaning but multiple and select interest groups.
Bill Moseley will get my vote.

McLeod-Skinner for Congress
Vote for Jamie McLeod-Skinner for congressional representative for District 2.
I first met Jamie early this year, at a candidates’ forum for Democratic and Independent candidates for Congress in Sunriver. After listening to all the candidates, I felt she came out head and shoulders above the others. She has a breadth of knowledge and experience that will help our district. She has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a master’s degree in regional planning and a law degree (JD) with a focus on water, natural resources and Native American law. She has a long history of public service, both volunteer and paid. She understands the issues of our district, including water management for our farmers and ranchers, housing, education and health care. She went to high school and law school in Oregon and has family roots in Eastern Oregon. She has served as an elected official in the past (two terms on the Santa Clara, California, City Council). While in office, she was instrumental in improving housing and economic development in her community. Her focus, in every paid or volunteer job she has held, has been helping citizens in her communities to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
Jamie is definitely qualified for the job of congressional representative for our district! Calling out her strengths is far more important than calling out the weaknesses of our current representative, although I could name many!
Please join me in voting for Ms. McLeod-Skinner on Nov. 6.

Vote for Buehler
Knute Buehler has been my medical adviser, a valued member in our Republican Party and a friend for a number of years.
Knute is an intelligent, thoughtful person who researches issues and listens to our views. He will openly communicate his reasons for having an opposite opinion from mine. Those few differences may be followed by Knute checking into our expressed differences. He will research our thoughts carefully and make appropriate adjustments when needed.
Most importantly, I have found Knute Buehler puts major priority on the needs of the county he represents and/or the state of Oregon when making legislative decisions. Knute Buehler possesses the strength and value system Oregon needs as our leader.
