Hill engaged to woman he pleaded guilty to assaulting — Three years after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a 2014 assault of his girlfriend, who was eight weeks pregnant with their son at the time, Kansas City Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill is now engaged to her. Hill, then a running back at Oklahoma State, in 2015 pleaded guilty to domestic battery of Crystal Espinal in a Stillwater, Oklahoma, apartment in December 2014. He was given a three-year deferred sentence with probation and required to complete an anger management course along with a 52-week batterer’s intervention program. Dismissed from the Oklahoma State football program, he finished his collegiate career at Division-II West Alabama before being selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft. Because Hill successfully completed his probation last month, the domestic abuse charges were dismissed and his record was expunged. Recently, Espinal and their 3-year-old son, Zev, moved to Kansas City. Three weeks ago, Hill proposed to Espinal during a low-key night out. “It feels good,” Hill said. “Everything feels good. Everything is in order. I’m playing well, my family is great, my family is amazing. I have a great support system. Everything is going well for me.”

Basketball

Stewart leads U.S. women in quarterfinal victory — For nearly a decade, Breanna Stewart has been making an impact with USA Basketball. Now a mainstay on the national team, the WNBA MVP is a big reason why the U.S. has been winning at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. She scored 19 points in the quarterfinal win over Nigeria and keyed the run in the second quarter the Americans used to rally from an early deficit for the 71-40 victory Friday. Next up for Stewart and her teammates is Belgium in the semifinal on Saturday. This is the second time the 24-year-old has played for the U.S. in the World Cup. The U.S. trailed 20-13 midway through the second quarter before Stewart and her Seattle teammates — Sue Bird and Jewell Loyd — took over. The Americans closed the half by scoring the final eight points to go up 27-23 at the break. Stewart’s 3-pointer with 2:04 left in the half gave the U.S. its first lead of the game. The Americans kept up their run to start the second half and opened a double-digit lead early in the third quarter that they would not relinquish.

Rambis rejoins Lakers’ front office — Former Los Angeles Lakers player and coach Kurt Rambis has rejoined the front office. Rambis will be the Lakers’ senior basketball adviser, president of basketball operations Magic Johnson announced Friday. The 60-year-old Rambis will “support the basketball operations and coaching staffs in their day-to-day functions,” according to a team news release.

Hoffman, Williamson win USA national push titles — Sylvia Hoffman took the women’s title and Josh Williamson claimed the men’s crown Friday at the USA Bobsled National Push Championships. Briauna Jones won the women’s driver push event, and Frankie Del Duca won the competition among men’s drivers. All four winners became a USA Bobsled national push champion for the first time. Hoffman has never even been in a bobsled. She won the rookie push championship last month, earning her an invite to the national championships — which take place on a track with a wheeled sled. On-ice training starts in October. Williamson was a skeleton team hopeful a year ago. Jones and Del Duca both have experience as bobsled push athletes, and are transitioning toward becoming drivers.
