Central Christian eyes a program first — Central Christian has offered varsity volleyball since the Redmond school opened in 1992, but the Tigers have never played in the state tournament. That could change this season, as Central Christian has already secured a spot in the Class 1A Mountain Valley League playoffs and could challenge for the regular-season league championship with a win over first-place Hosanna Christian on Tuesday night. The Tigers take a 9-2 record and No. 25 state ranking into their home date with the No. 5-ranked Lions from Klamath Falls. Central Christian coach Brooke Smalstig said senior captain Lauren Rickabaugh has been the Tigers’ leader. “She has definitely led the team with her all-around play,” Smalstig said of the 5-foot-7-inch outside hitter,.

Madras-Scio game will be for division lead — With a 24-7 road win over Blanchet Catholic on Friday, Madras improved to 2-0 in the Class 3A Special District 1 East Division and set up a showdown Thursday night at home against division co-leader Scio.
