Gary Walter Winslow, 79, of Bend, Oregon, died on September 15, 2018, at Bend Hospice, Partners In Care, surrounded by his family. Gary was born in Bend, Oregon, to Edwin (Sonny) and Virginia Winslow who proceeded him in death.
Gary graduated from Bend Senior High School, class of 1956. Soon after graduation, he joined the City of Bend Police Department. While working at the police department, Gary met his wife to be, Loretta Sabin, after serving her an arrest warrant for unpaid parking tickets. They would be wed soon after in January, 1964. Gary would go on retire from UPS in 1994 after 21 years with the company.
He witnessed Bend grow from a one horse town to the city of roundabouts that we all know today. He never wanted to go far. He had everything he wanted right here in Central Oregon.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting and camping. After retirement he found one place that was worth traveling to, Gold Beach, Oregon. He and Loretta were able to spend the month of September for the next 20 years fishing for salmon on the Rogue River.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta; daughters, Kim, Debbie, and Deeann; son, Mark; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gary lived a full life doing what he loved, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Bend Senior Center, on October 20, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Lunch will be served at the gathering.
