Q: We love watching “Bull,” but why did the producers kill off the character Cable? Was there a falling-out, and are there any plans to replace her?
— Ben Begley, Greenwood, Indiana
A: It was quite the opposite of a falling-out, since actress Annabelle Attanasio had a feature-directing opportunity that would have conflicted with her schedule in the CBS drama. The series’ makers — who happen to include her father, “Quiz Show” screenwriter and “Bull” co-creator Paul Attanasio — agreed to let her out of the show so she could make her movie.
It then became a question of addressing her character Cable’s absence with realism, and executive producer Glenn Gordon Caron has explained that it was taken as an opportunity to impact Bull (Michael Weatherly) and the other characters by making Cable one of the fatalities in a bridge collapse. It also has introduced a new figure in Cable’s mother, played by television veteran Jill Hennessy (“Crossing Jordan,” “Law & Order”), with her presence planned to play out for a while.
And as for a replacement for Cable, Bull’s legal team needed a new tech expert, so Mackenzie Meehan was added to the regular cast recently in the role of Taylor Rentzel, a cyber-savvy acquaintance of Marissa (Geneva Carr).
Q: I never really watched “Alias,” so who did Bradley Cooper play on that show? And did he do much other TV work?
— Leslie Scott, via email
A: Cooper played Will Tippin, a friend and reporter who looked into the death of the fiance of Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) — initially not knowing she was a spy — in the ABC espionage saga. Cooper was a regular on the show during its first two seasons, then received “Special Guest” billing when he occasionally returned later in the series’ run, having left to focus on his then-burgeoning movie career.
However, after appearing previously on “Sex and the City” and the financial drama “The $treet,” Cooper did land a post-”Alias” show of his own. In “Kitchen Confidential,” he played a variation on Anthony Bourdain (who wrote the book on which the show was based) … and it was somewhat ironic that Cooper would return to the culinary world about a decade later in the feature film “Burnt.”
On the home screen, Cooper also has appeared in the series “Touching Evil,” “Jack & Bobby,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Law & Order: Trial by Jury” and “Nip/Tuck.” He reprised his movie role in the streaming series “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” and he made recurring appearances (in a different role) in the show based on his film “Limitless.”
Q: When will “Take Two” return to the air?
— Doris Johnson, Grafton, Ohio
A: Nothing definite had been announced by ABC about the summer show’s future as of this writing, but we’d be surprised if more episodes aren’t ordered, very possibly for next summer. The light-in-tone detective drama starring Rachel Bilson and Eddie Cibrian performed quite respectably, at a time of year when it can be tough for a new series to get a foothold and a following. And given the cliffhanger that the program left off with, it seems the producers and writers (who include veterans of “Castle”) expect — or, at least, hope fervently — for there to be more.
Q: Why was a fourth anchor added to “CBS This Morning”? That round table is getting pretty crowded.
— Joe Bryan, via email
A: Well, yes … but consider that there often have been more than three people at the table anyway, as correspondents or guests take additional seats for their segments. In terms of adding another full-time anchor, it apparently was very much about Bianna Golodryga specifically, allowing for another consistent presence at the table or in the field each weekday. She had been contributing to “CBS This Morning” frequently anyway, so internally, this largely was seen as formalizing a relationship that already existed.
Q: Is the actor who plays the music star on “Happy Together” actually a music star?
— Carrie Graves, Stuart, Florida
A: Not at the level of Harry Styles — on whose experiences the CBS sitcom is based — but Felix Mallard does play guitar, with some videos he has posted on Instagram attesting to that. He also has modeled, but he’s principally an actor, with his main credit in his native Australia having been the serial “Neighbours.”
