Wrestling action with an international flair was on display Thursday night at La Pine High School, which hosted a cultural exchange dual meet between a Russian youth national team and a collection of wrestlers from around the region. An enthusiastic crowd of more than 200 spectators turned out for the event, which was the second of three stops on the Russians’ Oregon tour. The Russian team won 18-5 (one point was awarded for each match win). Local winners were Crook County’s Tucker Bonner at 106 pounds, Redmond’s Kagen Lawrence at 121, and Mountain View’s Ryan Haney and Carson Fassett, both at 143. Gabe Vidlak, of Medford’s Cascade Christian, won at 115 pounds, and another 115-pounder, La Pine 12-year-old Tag DeLuca, was recognized for the most exciting match, a 16-15 loss to his Russian opponent. The meet included wrestlers ages 12 to 18.
