Oregon set a new state record in midterm early voter turnout this year, according to Oregon Secretary of State Dennis Richardson’s office.

A press release from Richardson’s office states that by Oct. 30, 657,480 ballots were cast in Oregon – 124,056 more ballots than the same time in the 2014 midterm election.

“In Oregon, we celebrate voter participation and want to ensure that every eligible voter is able to vote,” Richardson said in the press release. “If you haven’t turned in your ballot yet, please do so soon.”

As of Tuesday, 23.8 percent of ballots were returned according to the release, which is a slight dip from 24.5 percent of ballots received the Tuesday before Election Day 2014 and 24 percent that same day in 2010. The press release states that Oregon’s population growth and increased voter registration has resulted in the higher raw number of ballots despite a lower percentage of ballots returned.
