State water polo playoffs get underway

CORVALLIS — The Oregon High School Water Polo playoffs got underway Thursday with 5A/4A play at Osborn Aquatic Center. The Ridgeview girls, seeded No. 5, fell 19-2 to No. 4 Ashland. Later, the Redmond boys, seeded No. 7, lost 19-3 to No. 2 Hood River Valley.

In other girls contests, No. 1 Hood River Valley downed No. 8 Parkrose 18-1, No. 3 Hillsboro beat No. 6 Willamette 16-9, and No. 2 West Albany defeated No. 7 Cottage Grove 13-3. In other boys games, No. 1 Parkrose beat No. 8 Churchill 5-0, No. 5 Ashland topped No. 4 North Eugene 8-6, and No. 3 West Albany defeated No. 6 Hillsboro 22-7. Thursday’s winners advance to the state championships Nov. 9-10 at Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

The 6A boys playoffs take place Friday at the Osborn facility, where No. 12 Mountain View meets No. 5 Beaverton at 8 a.m. and No. 11 Summit faces No. 6 Reynolds at 4:10 p.m. Playoff winners advance to Round 1 matches later Friday, and the winners there move on to the state championships Nov. 9-10 at Tualatin Hills.

On Saturday, OAC hosts the opening matches of the 6A girls playoffs, starting with No. 5 Summit vs. No. 12 Beaverton at 8 a.m. No. 9 Bend faces No. 8 David Douglas at 10:20 a.m.
