Sondra Sue Deitrick

1939 – 2018

Sondra Sue Deitrick (nee Hubbell) born June 9, 1939, died September 15, 2018, of heart failure. Born in Eureka, Kansas, Sondra moved to Central Oregon when she was just two, with her father, George Hubbell, her mother, Maude (Kate), and her sister, Donna (Doni).

She grew up in Redmond, attending school there from first grade through high school. She was active in 4H, Drill Team and FHA. When she was 18, she met and married the love of her life, Dwayne Deitrick. Two children blessed them, first Rick in 1959, followed by Rhonda in 1961.

Although they always considered Central Oregon home, a career move in 1966 took them to Yakima, WA. Sondra fell in love with the Yakima Valley, and for the rest of her life she remembered living there very fondly.

In 1969, another career move brought them to the Milwaukie, OR area, where they settled and lived until she passed. Sondra began working in the library at Bilquist Elementary School in 1971, spending the next 31 years encouraging children to fall in love with reading. After retiring in 2002, Sondra and Dwayne spent many years wintering in Yuma, Arizona with lifelong friends.

Sondra was an ovarian cancer survivor, and was always quick to care for and support others with a cancer diagnosis. Sondra was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. If you knew her, you loved her!

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, and son-in-law, Roger Calhoun.She is survived by husband Dwayne, son Rick (Melissa), daughter Rhonda, and grandsons Kohl Calhoun and Wade Deitrick.
