Roughriders top Bobcats — Bend Rugby’s Roughriders scored a 52-40 victory over Central Oregon Community College in a friendly match Saturday at COCC. The Bobcats, now 4-1 overall, will host another friendly this Saturday against the Oregon State University second team. Kickoff at COCC is set for 1 p.m.
BASEBALL
Red Sox boast 3 Gold Glove winners — Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Ian Kinsler have won Gold Gloves for the World Series champion Boston Red Sox. The prizes for defensive excellence were announced Sunday night. Oakland and Colorado each had two Gold Glove winners in the infield. Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons and Kansas City left fielder Alex Gordon also won in the America League. Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs and Freddie Freeman of Atlanta tied for the National League award at first base. Atlanta center fielder Ender Inciarte and Braves right fielder Nick Markakis also won in the NL.

Ex-Vikings star Brown dies at 80 — Bill Brown, the Minnesota Vikings fullback who was a four-time Pro Bowl pick in 14 seasons in the NFL, has died. He was 80. The Vikings announced the death Sunday, before a moment of silence for Brown prior to their home game against Detroit. Brown’s son-in-law, former Vikings quarterback Rich Gannon, said on Twitter that Brown “passed away peacefully.”

L.A. Kings fire head coach Stevens — The struggling Los Angeles Kings fired head coach John Stevens on Sunday just 13 games into his second season in charge. Willie Desjardins will be the Kings’ interim head coach for the rest of the regular season, general manager Rob Blake said. Los Angeles also fired assistant coach Don Nachbaur and hired former Kings forward Marco Sturm to replace him on Desjardins’ staff. Through Saturday’s games, Los Angeles was last in the overall NHL standings after a 4-8-1 start and last in the league with 2.15 goals per game. The Kings have been outscored 45-28, but they had won two of their past three games following a six-game losing streak.
