Deaths of note from around the world:
John Marttila, 78: A one-time Republican turned political consultant who worked on dozens of Democratic campaigns and helped engineer winning electoral strategies for Joe Biden, John Kerry, Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., former Detroit mayor Coleman Young and dozens of other candidates. Died Nov. 3 at a Boston hospital of complications from prostate cancer.
Gerald Bloncourt, 91: A social justice advocate who, after being expelled from Haiti for his role in anti-government protests in 1946, went to Paris and turned his zeal for advoacy work into photography that captured the humanity of immigrants and factory workers. Died Oct. 29 in Paris from complications of melanoma.
