A man was killed Tuesday when he was ejected from the vehicle he was driving during a crash on NE Clark Drive north of Dogwood Lane near the city of Madras, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was not identified by the sheriff’s office.

Undersheriff Marc Heckathorn said a witness told authorities that the driver, who did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt, was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash, which happened about 4:43 p.m. The driver’s vehicle went off the road and flipped into an empty field, Heckathorn said.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was traveling from Gateway to Madras on NE Clark Drive.

Sheriff’s deputies performed CPR until Jefferson County EMS officials arrived, but the man died at the scene, Heckathorn said.
