Jesse Dayton returns to Volcanic Theatre Pub

There are lots of very good reasons why John Doe of X, The Supersuckers and one-man band Scott H. Biram tapped Jesse Dayton to open their shows in Bend in the last few years. You can hear most of those reasons on the man’s latest album, this year’s “The Outsider”: The mix of tear-in-beer country, punk rock attitude and rockabilly swagger is a modern answer to X’s original roots-meets-punk experiments of the early ’80s. Just in case Dayton’s solo work doesn’t convince you on its own merits, the guitarist’s expansive résumé also includes collaborations with Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, session work on The Supersuckers’ country record “Must’ve Been High” and scoring for two Rob Zombie films. Dayton will return to Volcanic Theatre Pub on Friday with local outlaw country group Sleepless Truckers opening.

Jesse Dayton, with Sleepless Truckers: 9 p.m. Friday; $10 plus fees in advance; Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend; volcanictheatre.com or 541-323-1881.
