Bend Police are investigating claims made in a Facebook post that described a robbery and assault Thursday night near Shevlin Park.
The Facebook post, shared at 9:53 p.m. Thursday on Facebook, was written by someone who said their mother was driving near Shevlin Park when two men hiding in the bushes threw a stuffed animal in front of her car to make it appear like she hit a dog. When she stopped and got out of her car, the two men came up behind her, pulled a knife and robbed and assaulted her, according to the post.
The men then reportedly told her they would kill her if the cops knew. The men were wearing black sweatshirts and black beanies and driving a black van with no license plates, according to the post.
The post also claims a similar incident happened to a girl Wednesday night near Central Oregon Community College.
The alleged victim, or person who made the post, did not report the incident to police.
Bend Police received multiple reports Friday morning from concerned citizens. Officers reached out to the person who made the post and conducted an interview Friday morning.
Bend Police and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office worked together Friday and determined the possible location of the incident was NW Shevlin Park Road and NW Chardonnay Lane.
Based on the investigation, law enforcement officials have no credible or substantiated information to believe there is an active threat to the public or nearby college campus.
Bend Police ask residents in the area to check any surveillance cameras for suspicious activity or a large black van within the last 36 hours.
Residents with information are asked to contact the Bend Police nonemergency number 541-693-6911 and reference case number 2018-356489.
