The new Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Bend might have been a popular place for lunch after Black Friday shopping.

But it won’t be open until February, according to a sign on the building. Tennessee-based Cracker Barrel and another Southern chain, Chick-fil-A, were two of the first tenants revealed for Robal Road Village, a shopping center on N. U.S. Highway 97. The stand-alone restaurants have followed their own construction schedules while the rest of the shopping center opened in January.

A representative of First Western Development Services, the Washington company that developed Robal Road Village, said Chick-fil-A is still coming to Bend.

“As far as I know, Chick-fil-A is going to start construction in the spring,” property manager Tyler Kincaid said.

Cracker Barrel announced in April it would open its Bend restaurant and gift shop in November.

Kincaid said the city of Bend was behind Cracker Barrel’s delay, but city spokeswoman Anne Aurand disputed that.

Neither Cracker Barrel nor its contractor has scheduled final inspections of the building at 20512 Robal Lane, Aurand said. Inspections must be approved before a building owner can apply for a certificate of occupancy.

The certificate would be issued by the Building Division within 48 hours of an approved final inspection, Aurand said.

The last inspections at Cracker Barrel scheduled with the city were Oct. 31 for storm site drainage and roof drains, both of which were approved, Aurand said.

A Cracker Barrel construction manager referred questions to a spokeswoman, who did not respond to The Bulletin’s inquiry.
