Katy Perry tops Forbes list again

Katy Perry has roared back to the top of Forbes’ highest-paid women in music list.

The pop star earned an estimated $83 million before taxes between June 2017 and June 2018, largely due to her 80-date Witness tour and judging duties on ABC’s “American Idol” reboot, the financial magazine said. Perry reclaims the spot from 2015, when she earned $135 million during Forbes’ scoring period.

Perry was followed by Taylor Swift, who rose from last year’s No. 3 spot by earning $80 million thanks to her Reputation tour, which launched in Phoenix in May. Swift might have unseated Perry this year had most of her tour dates fallen inside the scoring period.

Beyoncé, who topped the list last year, came in at No. 3 with $60 million. Rounding out the top 10 are Pink ($52 million), Lady Gaga ($50 million), Jennifer Lopez ($47 million), Rihanna ($37.5 million), European superstar Helene Fischer ($32 million), Celine Dion ($31 million) and Britney Spears ($30 million).

Satanic Temple and Warner Bros. settle

Warner Bros., which produces “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” on Netflix, said Wednesday it has settled a lawsuit with the Satanic Temple, which waged a legal battle over the show’s use of a statue featuring a goat-headed deity.

The temple’s lawsuit, filed earlier this month, accused Warner Bros. and Netflix of copyright infringement. The temple said a statue of the deity Baphomet on the show looked similar to one the temple created.

The case drew widespread interest in Hollywood because of the nature of the claims and because it raised broader legal questions about tensions between free speech and copyright protection. Legal experts said the dispute had the potential to change how Hollywood depicts cultural symbols in films and TV shows.

A Satanic Temple spokesman did not return a call for comment. Warner Bros. confirmed the lawsuit was settled and said the terms of the agreement were confidential.

The Satanic Temple has used its version of the Baphomet with Children statue as part of its mission to separate church and state. The temple said it was concerned a similar statue on “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” could cause people to make wrong assumptions about the temple and its practices.
