June 29, 1943 – November 16, 2018

Glen was born to Glen and Edna Mickel on June 29, 1943. The youngest of nine children, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary; two sisters (Glenda and Faye); three children (Mark, Kim and Steve); 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jeremy, and grandsons Jonathan and Chase.

After graduating high school, Glen joined the Air Force and spent three years in France. When he returned home he met a nineteen-year-old girl who stole his heart and within 7 months were married. Glen and Rosemary moved to Echo Park, CA to pursue a ministry degree at LIFE Bible College. With two kids, Mark and Kim, they moved back to Central Oregon and served as Senior Pastors in Prineville where Steve was born. They then moved to Miles City, MT to pastor a church. Son, Jeremy was born there on a -40 degree night in 1974. Moving back to Redmond, they served as assistant pastors while planting a new church in Sisters. It was during this season that Glen worked for 12 years at Eberhard’s Dairy. Glen then served with Ken Johnson for 14 years in Bend at Westside Church, which included many trips to Kenya and other African countries doing leadership development.

In 1996 Rosemary and Glen moved to Kenya to serve as missionaries for Foursquare Missions International. For over a decade they would travel across Africa and the Middle East for Foursquare Missions Int’l, supporting and training missionaries and pastors in over 20 countries. Of particular note, Glen was also instrumental in beginning a new work among the unreached people group, Bhojpuri, on the island of Mauritius, about 1200 miles off the east coast of South Africa.

In 2008, they returned to Central Oregon after the death of their youngest son Jeremy. Glen cared for his wife Rosemary and his many grandkids until his death on November 16, 2018. He was unfailing in his care for Rosemary and was constantly looking out for her the last years of his life. He never stopped dreaming and completed his Masters degree in Strategic Leadership at the age of 70. He modeled a grace and strength through many other losses in his family, including the most recent loss of his grandson Chase in 2016. Glen’s legacy not only includes his many children and grandchildren, but also his unfailing faith in Jesus and his constant commitment to share the love of Jesus to his family, his caregivers, and his friends.

A Celebration of Glen’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Westside Church of Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Four Square Missions, PO Box 26776, Los Angeles, CA 90026 or at Foursquaremissions@foursquare.org.  Niswonger-Reynolds funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
