Racist post targeting ex-UO coach sparks outrage — A Florida State fan posted images on social media depicting Seminoles coach Willie Taggart getting lynched, prompting outrage Sunday. Taggart was head football coach at Oregon in 2017. Florida State president John Thrasher released a statement Sunday stating the post was unacceptable and indicated an investigation is being conducted by the state attorney. Emotions ran high Saturday night among Florida State fans after a season-ending loss to rival Florida, which left the Seminoles with a 5-7 record and out of bowl contention.

MLB seeks return of campaign donation — About the time inflammatory comments by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., endorsing public hangings surfaced on video, Major League Baseball donated $5,000 to her campaign. After word of the donation broke over the weekend, MLB asked for the money back. The contribution, first reported Saturday by Popular Information, is embarrassing to MLB, which has several initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion in its sport. “The contribution was made in connection with an event that MLB lobbyists were asked to attend,” an MLB spokesman said in a statement. “MLB has requested that the donation be returned.”

Norwegian men extend World Cup super-G streak — Kjetil Jansrud extended Norway’s streak to seven straight World Cup super-G wins at the Lake Louise, Alberta, venue with a blazing run Sunday. Jansrud, 33, has now accounted for three of the victories during the run, with Aksel Lund Svindal collecting the other four. Jansrud darted down the course in 1 minute, 33.52 seconds to eclipse Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria by a 0.14-second margin. Mauro Caviezel of Switzerland took third. Svindal wound up fifth. Starting 39th, American Ryan Cochran-Siegle moved up to finish in a tie for 12th place.
Shiffrin prevails against Killington — Mikaela Shiffrin powered through the fog in Killington, Vermont, on Sunday to win her third straight World Cup slalom race at the venue. The 23-year-old from Colorado overcame her tiny missteps and got stronger near the finish by the urging of the home crowd. Shiffrin finished in a combined time of 1 minute, 43.25 seconds to edge Petra Vlhova of Slovakia by 0.57 seconds. Sweden’s Frida Hansdotter finished third. Shiffrin’s 45th overall World Cup win capped off a big weekend at Killington for her. On Saturday, she was fourth in the giant slalom.
