Vernita Lee, 83: The mother of lifestyle and media mogul Oprah Winfrey. Died Thursday at her home in Milwaukee.

Ricky Jay, 72: A magician, historian and actor who appeared in “Boogie Nights” and other films. Died Saturday of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles.

Nicolas Roeg, 90: the provocative British director who had a career spanning numerous eras of filmmaking, and is known for films such as “Performance,” “Don’t Look Now” and “The Man Who Fell to Earth.” Died Friday night.
