Allegedly drunken Bend man pulled from stuck Jeep as it catches fire

An inebriated Bend man was pulled from his Jeep after it became stuck next to the road and caught fire Monday evening, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Brian Larson, 56, drove his Jeep Grand Cherokee down an embankment at the corner of U.S. Highway 20 and the Old Bend-Redmond Highway at about 7:30 p.m. He soon became stuck on a dirt pile in a vacant lot nearby, according to the sheriff’s office.

A passerby saw the Jeep catch fire and, with the assistance of a sheriff’s deputies, pulled Larson from the vehicle as the fire grew. The fire, which spread to nearby trees and brush, was doused quickly by the Bend Fire Department.

Larson, who was alone in the Jeep, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants and taken to the Deschutes County jail.
