Zion I returns to Bend

For more than 20 years beginning in the mid-’90s, Zion I’s MC Zumbi and DJ/producer AmpLive shifted hip-hop conventions with their socially conscious lyrics and dense soundscapes touching on everything from funk and soul to dubstep. With AmpLive’s departure as a full-time member in 2015, Zumbi took over Zion I and launched into one of the most prolific phases of his already prolific career, dropping multiple mixtapes and studio albums each year since. This year’s offerings include “The Tonite Show with Zion I,” a collaboration with DJ Fresh; and this month’s “Ritual Mystik,” a compact, nine-song effort that ties together many of the threads Zumbi has explored throughout his career. Last in Bend this summer, opening up for Rebelution at the Athletic Club of Bend, Zion I returns to play Volcanic Theatre Pub on Tuesday with local rapper Gainon (of The HardChords) and DJ Wicked opening.

Zion I, with Gainon, DJ Wicked: 9 p.m. Tuesday, doors open at 8:30 p.m.; $15 plus fees in advance, $20 at the door; Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend; volcanictheatre.com or 541-323-1881.
