Bend to launch phone, online surveys
The city of Bend plans to launch a phone survey Dec. 6 to gather feedback about the city.
The 10-minute survey is intended to be statistically valid and accurately represent views in the community. The Bend City Council will hear the results in January when it begins setting goals for Bend’s next two years.
In addition to the phone survey, an online survey with similar questions will be on the city’s website from Dec. 10-22.
Bend boundary map options to be on display
With the opening of north Bend’s 13th neighborhood elementary school looming, Bend-La Pine Schools will release three potential new boundary maps during two open houses next week.
The meetings will take place Tuesday at Sky View Middle School and Thursday at Pacific Crest Middle School, both from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
During the open houses, visitors can see three options for attendance area boundary changes for Bend’s elementary schools, speak with attendance area review committee members and provide feedback. People can comment on the boundary options in person or through an online survey on the district website, which will be open from 4:30 p.m. Tuesday until 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10. The proposed maps will be available online starting at noon Tuesday.
The attendance area of every neighborhood elementary school in Bend will be changed when the new elementary school opens.
The elementary schools expected to see the biggest changes in their attendance areas are Lava Ridge in northeast Bend and High Lakes in Northwest Crossing.
The new school, at O.B. Riley and Cooley roads, will hold 600 students and will open in September 2019. The attendance committee is expected to make its final boundary recommendations to Superintendent Shay Mikalson in January, and the new boundaries will go into effect at the start of the 2019-20 school year.
The process of changing middle and high school boundary lines will begin in September 2019, in preparation for Bend’s fourth comprehensive high school opening in 2021.
