Bend’s Ian Brown won the Junior Men 13-14 division at the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championship this past Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky.
Brown, racing for Bend Endurance Academy, finished the race in 22 minutes and 15 seconds, 1:15 ahead of second-place Wesley Haggstrom (Velocious Sport, Winston-Salem, North Carolina). Magnus White (Boulder Junior Cycling, Colorado) took third place, 1:43 back.
“I wanted to get off the start fast and control the race from the front,” Brown was quoted saying on www.cxmagazine.com.
By the second lap on the muddy, wet course, Brown had a 30-second lead.
Brown said he liked the muddy conditions.
“It was awesome,” he was quoted saying on the website. “It was a lot of fun out there. Perfect cyclocross conditions. This is the best kind of stuff.”
