A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports (all times Pacific):
Monday
College football, Alabama vs. Clemson, 5 p.m. (ESPN): Alabama has claimed two of the four College Football Playoff National Championship games to date, including last year’s overtime win over Georgia. The previous year featured this season’s CFP finalists — and Clemson upset the Crimson Tide 35-31 when the Tigers scored the decisive touchdown with one second left.
Monday
NBA basketball, New York at Portland, 7 p.m. (NBC Sports Northwest): The Blazers hit the midpoint of a five-game homestand, facing the Knicks in the first of three straight games against Eastern Conference foes. Portland hosts Chicago on Wednesday and Charlotte on Friday before closing out the week Sunday against the current Western Conference-leading Nuggets in Denver.
Tuesday
Prep basketball, Sprague at Bend and McNary at Summit, boys at 5 p.m., girls at 6:30 p.m.: It’s opening night in the Mountain Valley Conference, and two league doubleheaders will take place in Bend as the Lava Bears host the Olympians from Salem while the Storm entertain the Celtics from Keizer. Mountain View will travel to South Salem, the boys tipping off at 5 p.m. and the girls at 6:30.
Thursday
College men’s basketball, UCLA at Oregon, 6 p.m. (ESPN): Things started so poorly for the Bruins this season that they fired coach Steve Alford even before the first Pac-12 game. They have won two in a row now under interim coach Murry Bartow. The Ducks, decimated by injuries and a midseason transfer, look to rebound from a home loss to Oregon State in the conference opener.
Saturday
NFL football, divisional playoffs, Indianapolis at Kansas City, 1:35 p.m. (NBC): The Colts and Chiefs kick off Week 2 of the postseason. When these two teams last met in the playoffs, in a 2013 AFC wild-card game, Indy quarterback Andrew Luck brought the Colts back from a 28-point second-half deficit for a stunning 45-44 victory over Andy Reid’s Chiefs.
