Details: A new independent living community for people 55 and older should be complete this summer.
BPM Senior Living of Portland is building The Alexander at 1125 NE Watt Way on the east side of Bend. The 136-apartment complex will be comparable to Mt. Bachelor Village, said Dan Lamey, president and chief operating officer of BPM. Much of the 200,000-square-foot, four-story building is devoted to amenities.
The list includes an indoor pool, spa, fitness center, yoga studio, salon, barber shop, theater, dog park, outdoor fireplace and three different dining places, Lamey said. The rents start at $2,075 for a studio apartment and include a food and drink allowance and activities.
The building is laid out in a reduced ‘X’ shape, so most of the floor plans include a balcony or patio, said Tony Silvestrini, president of general contractor BDC Construction. The building is about 70 percent complete, he said, and the goal is to have it open sometime this summer.
BPM, which is part of BPM Real Estate Group in Portland, started working on the building in Bend in July 2017.

“There hadn’t been any senior independent living built down there in a long time,” Lamey said.
