Measles outbreak grows — The number of unvaccinated Clark County children with confirmed cases of the measles continues to rise, officials said, as does the number of public and private businesses where people may have been exposed to the contagious children. Public health officials have confirmed 16 Clark County-area children have the measles, and five are suspected to have the preventable disease. Fourteen of the confirmed cases involve children who have not been vaccinated. According to a news release, the remaining two cases involved children with unverified immunization histories. Two children have been hospitalized, one with a confirmed measles case and the other suspected.
Human trafficking conviction — A Portland man has been convicted of multiple sex crimes after luring a 15-year-old girl from a bus stop five years ago. Multnomah County District Attorney’s spokesman Brent Weisberg said Friday that 54-year-old Anthony Curry forced the girl to pose for nude photos and dance naked in a strip club alongside adult women. Prosecutors said during trial that Curry persuaded the girl to get into his car and then groomed her for human sex trafficking. The jury found him guilty of all but one count of sodomy, compelling prostitution, using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and attempting to promote prostitution.
