JJ Grey & Mofro

When Florida swamp/soul rocker JJ Grey played the Athletic Club of Bend in 2005, his band was called Mofro and had two albums under its belt. Much has changed for Grey and the band since then, including the name (to JJ Grey & Mofro), an increased rep on the jam-band/festival circuit and an additional seven albums that have refined the songwriter’s mix of rock, soul, country and blues. One thing that hasn’t changed is Grey’s love for his home state: The band’s latest studio release, 2015’s “Ol’ Glory,” is an intimate yet often rocking love letter to the swampy countryside of Northern Florida. Grey, who spends his downtime in Florida on a former chicken farm once owned by his grandparents, and Mofro will return to town Thursday for a show at Midtown Ballroom with Pittsburgh’s The Commonheart opening.

JJ Grey & Mofro, with The Commonheart: 8 p.m. Thursday, doors open at 7 p.m.; $27.50 plus fees in advance; Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; midtownbend.com or 541-408-4329.
