Barrel o’ fun — The Cracker Barrel Old Country Store opened Monday on the north side of Bend, just off U.S. Highway 97. The family-oriented restaurant emphasizes Southern hospitality, but no alcohol is served. Founded 50 years ago in Tennessee, Cracker Barrel has 650 stores in 44 states, including three in greater Portland. 20512 Robal Lane, Bend; crackerbarrel.com, 541-389-6614. Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Coming attractions — Several other new restaurants are in the advance planning stages. In Bend, Miyagi Ramen is renovating the former Elixir Wine Group space in the Box Factory (550 Industrial Way #102). Elixir, meanwhile, is completing a new building at the corner of NW Lava Road and Arizona Avenue. Bo’s Falafel is scheduled to occupy the former Sip Wine Bar (1366 NW Galveston Ave). And in Redmond, Sora Sushi is adding a second restaurant with conveyor-belt service (3853 SW 21st St. #109). None of these have announced opening dates.

Birthday bargain — Baldy’s BBQ is offering a special price to commemorate its 14th anniversary in Central Oregon.
